BRAD TRAVIS ACCOMODATES A LOYAL FAN ON RECENT ROAD TOUR

Starting its third season with WAFF 48 on its Severe Weather Road Tour, Decatur Fire & Rescue's Simulator Team will be travelling to four new cities within WAFF's viewing area. The shows attract hundreds and give attendees a chance to meet the WAFF 48 Storm Team up close and personal.

"Severe Weather Simulator"

Patrick Jackson's new soundtrack starts with a thunderstorm that  quickly escalates into a ravaging tornado. With a disturbing mix of shattering glass, falling trees, exploding tranformers, fire and screams of panic its mayhem that sends most scrambling to the nearest exit. But before they can escape, they must crawl through a smoke-choked room with zero visibilty.
With the new Sony Surround Sound system the unit literally rumbles threatening all who enter.  A refurbished interior adds to a pleasing decor, while new flatscreen monitors deliver a new DVD featuring WAFF Chief Meteorologist Brad Travis, television journalist Elizabeth Gentle and the Storm Team as they track a tornado that roared through the north Alabama area in 2006.
It smacks of a real world experience in a non-toxic environment. The loss of control and visibility genuinely surprise patrons who have never been exposed to an emergency environment of its kind. The night shows are particularly effective.

Impact in 2009...

The Simulator educated and entertained over 4,000 children and adults in 2009 via trade shows, holiday events, corporate and educational functions. The 2008 Operations ("Sim Team") team include Project Manager, Lt. Dan Engle, Joe Webb, Roger Richardson, Craig Corum, Steve Childers, Adam Barnette, Patrick Jackson, Cory Aldridge, and Joshua Sparkman.
Interested parties may request a date via the Website @ CONTACT US or by calling the Public Affairs and Education Office @ 256-214-2778.
